Errors: |48K-50K|=2K, |65K-60K|=5K, |52K-55K|=3K. MAE = (2K+5K+3K)/3 = $3,333. MAPE = (2/48 + 5/65 + 3/52) / 3 × 100 = 5.9%. Bias = (50-48 + 60-65 + 55-52) / 3 = +$333. Forecasts are fairly accurate with slight optimistic bias.

MAPE is the most popular but has limitations (undefined for zero actuals, asymmetric for over- vs. under-forecasts). MAE provides absolute error magnitude. RMSE penalizes large errors more than small ones. Bias reveals directional tendency. Use a combination for complete insight.

MAPE (Mean Absolute Percentage Error) is the average of absolute percentage differences between forecast and actual values. A MAPE of 10% means your forecasts are off by 10% on average. It's the most widely used forecast accuracy metric.
Below 10% is excellent for stable, mature metrics. 10–20% is good for variable metrics. 20–30% is acceptable for hard-to-predict metrics. Above 30% suggests the forecasting method needs improvement. New or volatile metrics will naturally have higher MAPE.
Forecast bias measures systematic over- or under-forecasting. A positive bias means you consistently predict higher than actual (optimistic). A negative bias means you predict lower than actual (pessimistic). Bias can be corrected by adjusting your baseline.
Use multiple methods and average them. Include seasonal adjustments. Consider external factors (competition, market trends). Use historical accuracy to set confidence intervals. And most importantly: measure accuracy systematically so you know what to improve.
MAPE is percentage-based, making it comparable across different metrics and scales. MAE is in absolute units, making it easier to understand the dollar impact. Use both: MAPE for relative accuracy comparison, MAE for understanding real-world impact.
MAPE is undefined when actual values are zero (division by zero). Use MAE or WMAPE (weighted MAPE) as alternatives. WMAPE divides the sum of all absolute errors by the sum of all actuals, avoiding per-observation division.
